How to clean your hands after tie-dyeing

Posted by Rachel Sevcik on

Tie-dye is fun, but it can certainly be messy! If you've gotten tie-dye on your hands, there are a few things you can try to remove it:

  1. Soap and Water: First, try washing your hands with soap and water. Use warm water and a gentle soap to try and lift the dye from your skin.

  2. Lemon Juice and Salt: Mix equal parts lemon juice and salt to create a paste. Rub the paste onto your hands and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

  3. Baking Soda: Make a paste using baking soda and water. Rub the paste onto your hands and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

  4. Vinegar: Soak a cotton ball or cloth in white vinegar and rub it onto the dyed areas of your skin. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

  5. Hand Sanitizer: Apply a small amount of hand sanitizer to the dyed areas of your skin and rub it in. Let it sit for a few minutes before washing off with soap and water.

It's important to note that some tie-dye dyes can be stubborn and difficult to remove from skin. If these methods don't work, you may need to wait for the dye to naturally fade over time. Additionally, wearing gloves while tie-dyeing can help prevent dye from staining your hands in the first place.
